Sunday Drive

After Church today we decided to go for a picnic and an evening drive.  We loaded up the mini grill, some hot dogs, chicken, a couple salads, and off we went.   We went to Copperton park for our little picnic.  It was yummy and the kids had a great time.  That park brings back a bunch of memories.
If you knew Damon when he was a kid, Blake is making the same face Damon always did in pictures.  I guess it's like they always say, "what goes around, comes around".

Blake and Phoenix think that hot dogs at the park are extra delicious.

Relaxing in the warm evening air, until...

The kids decided to play- pile on mommy.

We cleaned up and headed to explore Copperton.  That lasted about 10 minutes.  We thought about exploring Riverton or Herriman, but decided on Butterfield Canyon.  What a cool drive.  The last time we were there, we were snowshoeing with Rob and Lacey (Ryann was only a couple of months old).  We didn't get to drive very far up the canyon in the winter.  So really this was a first.  (I did drive it with some friends years ago, but I can't really remember the scenery.)

It truly was beautiful  scenery.  We even got to see a couple of does.

At the top of the canyon, we headed up a dirt road to overlook Kennecott and the Salt Lake Valley.  Very cool!  I highly recommend the drive.

I think I can see my house from here.

Hailee, Blake and Ryann loved Daddy showing them all the sights.

Very cool silhouette pictures Damon took.

After checking out the copper mine, we headed back down and decided to drive through Middle Canyon toward Tooele.  I'm glad we did because our brakes were overheating and we had to stop and let them cool.  When we finally got on our way, we found this little stream.  Damon splashed water on the brakes to cool them even more.  I guess we were blabbing too much to realize how steep the canyon was.  The rest of the way, we drove in a lower gear to save our poor brakes.

On our way home, we had this saw this awesome sunset across the Great Salt Lake.

What a great day to spend with the family.
